What is a simple truth about ageing that most people ignore?

 I love this question. Here are some simple truths about aging most people ignore, in the form of a list for clarity (I couldn’t just pick one!).

  1. Aging is not just about wrinkles and saggy skin: our bones and muscles recede and lose volume, contributing to the change in appearance. This happens earlier for women compared to men.
  2. Collagen is the main structural protein of the different connective tissues, such as skin, bone, cartilage and tendons, and has been widely used in the medicine and food industries. Collagen production decreases as we age, which leads to wrinkles and loss of elasticity in the skin. That’s why there’s such a big interest for collagen products. A good way to get collagen is through supplements. There is scientific proof they work; personally I take my collagen powder every morning with my coffee or soup.
  3. Nothing works if you don’t do the work…let me explain this because it’s very important. We can’t stop aging, this is a fact. We can delay the process and age gracefully. This is a fact too. How you do that? By implementing healthy habits- consistently. Consistency is more important than anything. Years of exercise, good nutrients foods, sunscreen & other skincare products, is what is gonna give you results in the long term. Quick anti-aging products do not work. Don’t waste time and money on those.
  4. Loving relationships and, more in general, being in love keep you young for longer. I know this sounds anecdotal, but it’s not. Love is the force that moves everything. It stimulates the brain to release different hormones and neurotransmitters that affect cardiovascular & immune system. If you’re a die-hard single, do not worry! Love is everywhere; you can love a sport, a hobby, nature, your pet and so on. Just don’t give away that “something” that gives you a spark in the eye.
